Tara Minton is a harpist, singer and songwriter hailing from Melbourne, Australia and she will be running a harp master class with Camac Harps at Clare College for the Cambridge Jazz Festival.

Her music is the divine combination of folk and jazz, soulful vocals and engaging story telling.

Before the Tara Minton Quintet take to the late-night stage in the Clare College cellars, Tara will give a workshop for harpists as part of the festival education programme. The first half of this will be about getting started with jazz on the harp, followed by exploring composition and maybe even writing a song together! The workshop is open to all ages and stages. Parking is provided for those who would like to bring their own harp, or it is possible to borrow a harp from Camac for the workshop (subject to reservation).

WORKSHOP

Between the end of the workshop and the start of the concert, you can enjoy a special exhibition of Camac’s pedal, lever and electric harps accompanied by a cheese and wine reception.

Camac Harps are passionate about tradition, and innovation.

"We are proud of the French tradition of exceptional instruments, and we also continually develop our harps through state-of-the-art technologies. Since our founding in 1972, all our instruments are still made in the same ateliers in the Breton countryside, before going on to travel the world.

The acoustic harp is - to put it mildly - challenging to amplify, and so we developed our electric and electroacoustic “blue harps”. With inbuilt pickups on every string and four outputs, they offer the cleanest possible amplification with minimal feedback. The arrival of amplified harps has allowed harpists fully to participate in the musics of our time. Jazz harp, once non-existent, is now a fully-fledged genre! "

"One of the most rewarding things about harp making is being in a position to give something back to the artists who inspire us. We are very proud to provide Tara Minton with a blue harp at all her concerts. She is an artist whose musical expression is equalled only by her warmth and integrity."
