St. Matthews Primary School

Sunday 29th Nov.

10:00am - 1:00pm

Rare Groove: an Introduction to the Blue Note Sound with the Josh Kemp Organ Quartet - an introduction for instrumentalists new to jazz.

Josh Kemp - Saxophone

Steve Fishwick - Trumpet

Mike Gorman - Hammond Organ

Chris Higginbottom - drums

Come and play grooving music from the Blue Note era with a world-class rhythm section featuring the driving swing of the Hammond organ, exploring the blues and hard bop elements of the Jazz genre.

The workshop is open to all - no pervious jazz experience is necessary, although a minimum standard of ABRSM grade 3 equivalent is recommended, and some sight-reading ability is required.

There will be a chance to hear a short performance by this in demand quartet as part of the workshop. Saxophonist and Composer Josh Kemp is known for his melodic inventiveness, rich tone and lyrical style of improvisation.

He is currently on tour promoting his new album 'Rare Groove', following a successful 30 date tour in 2014.
