Dennis Rollins, British jazz trombonist, composer and bandleader will be performing with the Cambridge University Jazz Orchestra (CUJO) for a one off event at the inaugural Cambridge Jazz Festival.

 

Dennis will also be leading a Big Band Workshop on Saturday Nov 21st and he'll be performing with unique Fender Rhodes driven raw funk five-piece band Resolution 88 as a special guest for a an exciting one-off concert not to be missed!

 

Dennis is well known on the British and international jazz scene and is celebrated for his versatility and muscular approach to playing the trombone. Over the years he has established a reputation as an artist of excellence, and has lent his unique and stylish talents to some of this country's and indeed the world's top jazz and pop personalities including Courtney Pine, Baba Maal, Jamiroquai, US3, Brand New Heavies, and Blur.

 

In 2006 his jazz/funk outfit Badbone & Co won the prestigious BBC Jazz Award for Best Band and the following year he picked up Trombonist of the Year at both the British Jazz Awards and the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Awards. Dennis was also nominated twice in the 2008 Parliamentary Jazz Awards - for Jazz Musician of the Year and the Jazz Education Award.

 

His latest band Velocity Trio won Band Of The Year (2012) in the Jazz Yorkshire Awards and was named Player of The Year by the British Trombone Society in 2013.

 

CUJO is Cambridge University’s premiere jazz ensemble bringing together the best jazz musicians in the university.  The group is 20-strong and focuses on performing jazz arrangements by leading big bands, standards, swing and funk.

 

They have worked with musicians such as Liane Carroll, Ian Shaw, Steve Waterman, Gareth Lockrane, Stan Sulzmann and Laurence Cottle and recent tours have involved performances in Budapest, Prague, Istanbul and Bordeaux.
