"This is sophisticated stuff, with a proper handle on Shorter's post-bop genius... Everyone plays superbly and the whole set is wholly recommended ***** Mark Gilbert, Jazz Journal

London-based saxophonist and composer Matt Anderson presents his new quartet for the first time at Hot Numbers featuring four exciting young musicians all of whom are current students or alumni of the Royal Academy of Music’s fertile Jazz Masters programme.

With an emphasis on original writing and arrangements often conceived together as a group, the quartet takes inspiration from sources as wide-ranging as Wayne Shorter, folk music of the British Isles, the European jazz scene and groove/rock music. They have also also received coaching from F-IRE Collective founder Barak Schmool.

Matt will be joined by pianist Ashley Henry, regularly be found performing with some of the UK’s leading jazz musicians such as Gary Crosby and Jean Toussaint or recording with award-winning hip-hop group “The Mouse Outfit.”

On bass duties is Will Harris whose dynamic and comprehensive approach to the double bass has put him in high demand as a musician in London where he started an MA at the Royal Academy of Music last year and is a regular member of the Andy Hague Quartet.

Completing the lineup is drummer and composer Jay Davis, a recipient of several awards including a Yamaha Jazz Scholarship, John Scheerer Prize for Drum Kit and the Sir Elton John Prize, to name just a few.

Matt Anderson will be giving a jazz workshop at the Jazz Cop-op on  Saturday Oct 8th 11:00 - 1:30pm.
