Acclaimed saxophonist and composer Josh Kemp presents a workshop on big band playing, including the premiere of a new piece specially commissioned for the occasion. The workshop will cover idiomatic phrasing, playing as a section, and rhythm section time-feel. Lock into the groove and enjoy the rip-roaring sound that can be created by a confident and well-drilled ensemble.

 

A versatile musician with a rare gift for melody, gaining many plaudits for his lyrical improvising style and attractive compositions, Josh has a vast experience on the jazz scene, including three national tours leading his quartet, performing with NYJO and the Guilhdall and Trinity Laban big bands, and conducting workshops and courses around the coutry. He writes for and performs with the E17 large ensemble and many other projects.
