As part of The Cambridge Jazz Festival’s commitment to supporting and promoting jazz in schools, three local school jazz orchestras will be taking the stage to showcase their considerable talents.

This fresh and sparky, collaborative event is a chance for young musicians to kick off an exciting day of jazz at The Mumford, with arrangements of everything from standards to funk and ragtime to swing.  Come and support musicians of the future as they make their mark on an evening dedicated to the big band sound.

Comberton Village College Jazz Band includes players of all ages and has been evolving over the past 6 years under the guidance of Bert Schilperoort.  The band tackles a wide range of jazz standards, the accent being on aural playing, improvisation, and having fun!

The Parkside Federation Funk Band comprises of musicians from across the Federation (Parkside and Coleridge), aged 12 – 16.  The students meet once a week and enjoy playing a variety of well-known and much-loved hits from the Funk, Soul, RnB and Disco genres.  The band has performed in a variety of professional venues across Cambridge but students are particularly looking forward to their performance, alongside some incredible musicians, in the Cambridge Jazz Festival.

Bottisham Village College Jazz Band is a big band comprising the best musicians in the school, from age 11-16. Playing classic standards from Take the A Train to Tequila, as well as branching into Blues Brothers and funk, the band has been featured in performances at West Road as well as regular performances in school and is led by David Burgoyne.

All money raised goes towards sponsoring CJF jazz workshops for young musicians.
