Tony Kofi Quintet: Portrait of Cannonball
“There is so much respect in jazz circles for Tony Kofi.” – Jazzwise
Tony Kofi is a British Jazz multi-instrumentalist born of Ghanaian parents, a player of the Alto, Baritone, Soprano, Tenor saxophones and flute. Having cut his teeth in the “Jazz Warriors” of the early 90’s, award-winning saxophonist Tony Kofi has gone on to establish himself as a musician, teacher and composer of some authority. His fluent and fiery hard-bop style makes him constantly in demand.
The project he will be bringing to Cambridge, and his most recent album release “Another Kind of Soul”, is a portrait of the great American saxophonist, Julian “Cannonball” Adderley. The band also features Andy Davies on trumpet, pianist Alex Webb, bassist Andrew Cleyndert and Alfonso Vitale on drums, and traces the explosive music of Adderley from his first sessions as leader in the mid-1950s through his work with Miles Davis to the soul-jazz of the 1960s.
