Live Painting: Gina Southgate

We are delighted to welcome back the legendary Gina Southgate as this year's Cambridge Jazz Festival Artist in Residence.

Gina has been live painting at a number of key live music events at the Festival and a very special interview with her (filmed recently at Stapleford Granary) is presented here in this page via Youtube.

Also presented here are slide shows of her CJF paintings (2019-2020) featuring music from Rob Luft. A price list of original paintings and prints are shown below.

'My live painting is concerned with the essence of the moment and my alignment to that moment.  A musician's unique relationship with their instrument informs my visual response'

Gina Southgate is a live painter, best known on the UK's international jazz scene where she produces spectacular, qualitative, real time paintings. For three decades she's painted at gigs and festivals capturing the vitality and nuance in her unique portraits of world class musicians

Her original paintings and limited edition prints hang in public and private collections worldwide. She has collaborated with, been resident artist for and exhibited at (among others); EFG London Jazz Festival, Gateshead International Jazz festival, All Tomorrows Parties, Jazz Leeds, Jazz North East, Jazz in the Round, Jazz on 3, Vortex Jazz, UK. Jazzahead!, Konfrontationen, and Kaleidophon Festivals, Europe. Vision Festival, USA.

ORIGINAL PAINTINGS for purchase

The original paintings were all made live during The Cambridge Jazz Festival 2020 or 2019.

They are all painted on triple primed acid free stretched canvas and are painted with highest quality light fast acrylics. They can be hung directly on the wall without framing, though personally I prefer to see them framed.

I can ship or deliver depending on where you live and in accordance with current Covid rules.

The prices are lower than they would be in a physical exhibition and I offer this as halfway between a 'festival price' and and a gallery price.  I accept instalments on payment and musicians in the paintings and families get a very special discount, please ask. If you would like to see the painting  in your space I can make a digital mock up.

Last year, due to a much bigger participation, bigger festival and budget, I was able to return between 20% and 30% of sales back to support the CJF. If it is possible I will do something similar this year.
