Sunday 29th Nov 2020

Free to view and streaming online at Mixcloud

Time: 6:30 - 7:30pm

How do jazz and the visual arts relate to one another? In his newly published book The Art of Jazz, writer, broadcaster and bassist Alyn Shipton explores the connections in the first 120 years of jazz, from the Cakewalk to Kamasi Washington. There are posters, photographs, portraits, paintings and record sleeves, all of which highlight developments in jazz music but also the visual language that reflects those developments, from cubism to abstract expressionism. Tonight Alyn talks about the process behind the book and how he came to investigate both jazz and art in detail.

There will be a live Q&A with Alyn Shipton immediately after his talk.

Questions for the Live Q&A can be emailed to cjf.questions@gmail.com
