Live Painting Workshop with Gina Southgate

and The Alley Cats

We are delighted to announce that this year's Cambridge Jazz Festival Artist in Residence is the legendary Gina Southgate.

​

Gina Southgate, best known in the London Jazz scene where she produces spectacular, qualitative, real time paintings, will give an Introduction to her work and working practice, followed by a practical demonstration of monoprint, wax resist, drawing and painting techniques on paper before a period of time for everyone to try these methods themselves.

​

These techniques will then be used in making live images of musicians (7 piece ensemble, The Alley Cats will be performing at the workshop from 3-4pm) and also explore abstract visual interpretation of sound. Attendees will get to make a piece of finished work that incorporates use of their collage materials along with drawing and painting.

​

Materials provided although please bring your own paint brushes and an apron and wear old clothes. limited to only 25 spaces and open to adults and children of all ages and abilities - no experience necessary. Adults will need to work with and help their children.
