Leon Greening - piano

Conor Chaplin - bass

Steve Brown - drums

Leon Greening is fast making a name for himself as a brilliant jazz pianist who is among the best of the current crop on the British jazz scene. Inspired by his predecessors Wynton Kelly, Bud Powell, Vic Feldman and Dudley Moore, his melodic, post-bebop playing is causing a real stir. So come along and hear what all the fuss is about.

He has some redoubtable companions to work with. Bassist Adam King has performed widely in Europe and the UK, and is one of the most sought-after young bass players around. Immensely talented drummer Steve Brown is well established, and brings to any band a sense of relaxation and good humour.

Conor Chaplin

Born in the south west of Ireland and then later growing up in Surrey, Conor Chaplin has become a young stalwart of the London jazz scene since he arrived there to study at Trinity College of Music, in Greenwich under the tutelage of Simon Purcell, Steve Watts, and others. Also formative in his education were the late great composer and educator Martin Read at Alton College in Hampshire, and his time as part of Surrey County Youth Jazz Orchestra, based in Woking, and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra under Bill Ashton and Mark Armstrong.

He is best known currently as part of Mercy Prize nominated group Dinosaur, led by trumpeter-composer Laura Jurd, as well as other contemporary original jazz projects including Flying Machines and formerly WorldService Project.

Between these regular projects and other one-off occasions he has had the pleasure of touring extensively throughout the UK, North America, Europe and Asia and has been fortunate to perform with diverse artists including Kit Downes, Ethan Iverson, Ari Hoenig, Marius Neset, Jacob Collier, Thomas Strønen, Bobo Stenson, George Garzone, Billy Cobham, Jesse Van Ruller, Iain Ballamy, Julian Siegel, Natalie Williams, Ivo Neame, Keyon Harrold, Stan Sulzmann, Bobby Wellins and more.

Steve Brown

Born in Manchester, England, Steve developed an early interest in music and began playing drums at age 14. By age 19, he was performing with local jazz groups. By the time he was 23, Steve had become the "first call" jazz drummer in Manchester, working with Scott Hamilton, Art Farmer and UK artists during their engagements in the city.

In 1996, Brown moved to London and began working as a sideman with many of the capitol’s finest musicians including engagements with jazz greats Harry ‘Sweets’ Edison and Conte Candoli. During the next 4 years his playing career went from strength to strength and Steve was the winner of the ‘Drums’ and ‘Rising Star’ categories in the 1999 British Jazz Awards. He has gone on to win the British Jazz award in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014

In 2000 Steve joined the Quartet of the great jazz saxophonist Scott Hamilton. For the last fifteen years, he toured internationally with Mr Hamilton. He is featured on his last five recordings for Concord records.

In between his engagements with the Scott Hamilton Quartet Steve continues to perform and record with a wide variety of artists including Benny Golson, Benny Green, Carl Fontana, Barry Harris, Junior Mance and Charles McPherson.
