Broadcaster, writer and bandleader Alyn Shipton in conversation with internationally famous clarinettist Adrian Cox about his new book On Jazz.

Published in May, by Cambridge University Press, On Jazz - a Personal Journey is Alyn’s own story of his life in jazz. Taking the reader through the stages in which he discovered the music, it follows the development of jazz itself, but through the perspective of the men and women who created the music, sharing their thoughts with Alyn. In the book he recounts meeting with such legends as Sonny Rollins, Oscar Peterson, Abbey Lincoln, and Carmen Bradford, giving new perspectives on much of the exciting story of this music. Today, in conversation, he relates how the book came about, and discusses many of the subjects it covers.

“A remarkable book”, Jazz Journal.

"Active involvement in and musical literacy always shape the way he approaches the vast subject of jazz.” The Arts Desk.

“Detailed, lucid and engaging.” BBC Music Magazine.
