Meeting through the young jazz scene in London, Zeñel came together, in 2016, to create original music, applying their jazz improv nature to other more unorthodox influences, such as rock, electro, hip hop, folk, etc.
Their level of skill has earned them positions on the Top10 best UK young drummer of the year (2015&2016) & finalist at BBC YoungMusician jazz award 2016.
“this band put in a great performance of original music. Zeñel would have been of equal interest to a 60-year-old jazzerati and a 6-year-old child, and everyone in between. They’re staying true to the tradition of “improvised, social music” while bringing us a fresh sound.” Matt Pannell (jazzjanuary.com)
Returning to the Cambridge Jazz Festival, this fresh sounding trio are the youngest band performing at NewGenjazz, and they have already played at the London and Lancaster Jazz Festivals and Love Supreme this year.
ZOE PASCAL - drums
LAURENCE WILKINS - trumpet
NOAH STONEMAN - piano
"stunning sold-out show... jaw-dropping brilliant cutting-edge music that would have satisfied all ages" New Generation Jazz (Brighton)
"I caught a few numbers by the talented teenage trio Zeñel, who were playing on the Bandstand stage programmed by local (Brighton) jazz club The Verdict. With an irrepressible drummer, trumpet, keyboards and a hard-working laptop, Zeñel is a band to watch out for, with a sound both precise and exuberant." - Love Supreme Review, London Jazz News
"we’re excited to hear what Zeñel are going to do when they visit us in Brighton in 2017 – a hip, cooking, super-talented trio of players who aren’t even old enough to vote yet!" - Artists to watch in 2017, Jazzwise Magazine
"The show ended tonight with jazz vibes from the immensely talented #Zeñel To be that young and that talented is scary!" - Sofar London
"These boys blew our socks off at our #openstudios showcase. Incredible young jazz trio." - Jam Sandwich
